Gov. Inuwa Yahaya moves to avert closure of Gombe Airport

Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, Gombe State Governor

Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has promised to offset outstanding debts owed the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by the State Government to avert the closure of Gombe Airport.

FAAN had notified the Gombe State Government of its resolve to withdraw the services of its aviation security as well as aerodrome rescue and fire fighting personnel, thereby shutting down the operations in some airports including Gombe Airport from Friday 15th November, 2019 over huge debts owed the authority.
According to a press statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ismaila Uba Missilli and made available to newsmen in Gombe says the Governor has promised to make a payment by the end of this November and thereafter offset all outstanding debts in subsequent months.
The FAAN had in April this year threatened to shut down Gombe Airport and eight others that were indebted to it after an earlier ultimatum had lapsed.
But on assumption to office in May this year, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya had to intervene to get FAAN to continue with its services in Gombe Airport.
