
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has advised prison inmates in the state to be mindful of their reformation training in the prisons, which he said, was designed with a view to improve their lives and make them better members of the society at the end of their prison terms.
The governor reminded them that they should not regard their confinement as permanent but a temporary place where they can be reformed for a better tomorrow.
Governor Ugwuanyi in a speech delivered by his deputy, Hon, Cecilia Ezeilo, when he visited the State Maximum Prison Oji River to mark his 100 days in office, noted that his administration would continue to give concrete support to the inmates of different Centres as it is the duty of government not only to secure life and properties but to make life more meaningful for all the people.
The governor also paid a visit to the Oji River Leprosy Centre and the Emene Rehabilitation Centre where he enjoined the inmates to adopt a positive approach to their stay and life in general, just as he also appealed to them to take their training seriously.
The governor informed them that the essence of his visit was to thank them for their support during the recent general elections and inauguration and to enjoin them to celebrate with him on his 100 days in office, coming up next week. He assured them that he would look into their request with a view to addressing them.
Earlier in their separate speeches, the Controller of Prisons, Enugu State Command, Sir Alloy Uchenna (JP), the Chief Medical Officer in-charge Oji River Leprosy Unit, Dr. Innocent Onwumere and the Principal /Coordinator Emene Rehabilitation Centre, Enugu, Mr. Innocent Agu noted that the inmates would experience affection from this present administration, adding that that the inmates were kept away from the public for the security and peace of the larger society.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of money and bags of rice to the inmates and the inspection of the compound by the governor.
