Six global scholars in various disciplines have accepted to serve as Visiting Professors for the next three years at the Dominican University, Ibadan-Nigeria under the Institution’s Visiting Professorship Programme.

A statement by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Jacinta A. Opara, listed the accomplished academics as Prof. Steven F. Koch, Prof. Harold Ngalawa, Prof. Siong Hook Law, Prof. Shoba Nelasco, Prof. Gerhard Berchtold and Prof. Cletus Chukwu.

While thanking them for their willingness to be part of the programme, Professor Opara acknowledged that their presence at Dominican University would be a great honour and an exceptional opportunity for them to contribute to the enrichment of the institution’s academic environment.

She explained that the University places emphasis on partnerships and other forms of engagement, including the invitation of scholars, researchers and other professionals from other institutions, including foreign universities, who visit to teach, lecture, or engage in research activities.

According to the statement, these visiting scholars, whose invitation is often regarded as recognition of their prominence in their fields, could stay for varying periods, within which time they are expected to “contribute to the community’s intellectual and research endeavors and international projection.”

In addition to conducting their own research, these exceptional senior visiting scholars are often expected to participate in productive institutional activities in their host institution, such as delivering formal lectures, engaging in discussions with undergraduate or postgraduate students, undertaking collaborative research with staff, presenting faculty seminars, as well as presenting papers as part of the university’s Public Lecture Series.

Professor Opara warmly welcomed the six Professors to the University.
