Guild of Editors commends CBN’s efforts at diversification of economy, Made in Nigeria campaign; Hails apex bank’s management of forex rate

The Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, has commended the Federal Government’s efforts towards diversification of the economy, which is a way out of the current recession in the country.
In a communiqué at the end of its 2017 Biennial Convention in Lagos last weekend, the Guild specifically commended the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN’s, efforts aimed at promoting the Made in Nigeria campaign and urged Nigerians to support the campaign which would contribute to the diversification drive.
The Guild also commended the CBN for moderating the exchange rate against the backdrop of the acute scarcity of foreign exchange.
The communiqué, signed by the President and Secretary General, Funke Egbemode and Victoria Ibanga respectively, acknowledged the negative impact of recession on all sectors of the society, especially on the media industry, stressing that in spite of the adverse effects of recession on it, the media still plays a key role in educating the populace on how to revive the nation’s economy.
The Convention with the theme, ”A Nation in Recession: Whither the Nigerian Media,” also agreed that for the media to play its critical role of pointing the way out of recession more effectively, there was need for synergy among stakeholders in the industry, insisting that practitioners should do more to promote government’s policies on economic diversification.
Attended by who is who in the media industry and declared open by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, the Convention in its communiqué also called on media organizations to focus more on training and retraining of media professionals for better service delivery.
