Gunmen abduct University don in Akwa Ibom

Gunmen at the weekend, kidnapped Akwa Ibom State University lecturer in Mkpat Enin, Mr. Mbosowo Augustine Ubom.
Reasons for Mr Ubom’s abduction were not known as at the time of filling this report but, an eye witness who refused to be named said, he was kidnapped at his residence in Ikot Ekpaw, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area at about 8 PM last Friday.
Global Patriot Newspapers, GPN, also gathered that, about six armed men stormed his home in the early hours and whisked him away.
According to a close source, the victim was relaxing with family members, when the kidnappers broke into the house, shooting sporadically into the air to scarce away the neigbhours before taking him away.
The source said the shooting which lasted for hours caused panic in the area and nobody could go out until the police patrol team came immediately after the gunmen had gone with their victim.
The incident happened within the same vicinity near a busy commercial community of Ekparakwa in Oruk Anam Local Government, where the former Chairman of Ikot Abasi, Obong Amaete Ntuk and wife were taken hostage while driving home from the airport few months ago.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom State Police Command, ASP Cordelia Nwawe when contacted, confirmed the incident on the telephone but could not give further details.
The incident happened near Ekparakwa in Oruk Anam Local Government, where the kidnap of Obong Amaete Ntuk and wife also took place.
