Rampaging gunmen suspected to be cult gang members on Monday night invaded Mgbuosimini community in Rumeme, Rivers State, killed 12 persons and left scores of others injured.
This is as residents of Mgbuosimini community near Agip Oil company in Port Harcourt are currently fleeing their homes for safety as the community now looks unsafe.
The sad killings, which happened at about 4:00 a.m, caused panic in the community as residents scampered for safety.
This is as the state Police Command in Rivers State has declared eight persons wanted in connection with the killing of the twelve persons
Confirming the killings in Port Harcourt, Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni also accused Icelander cult gangs as the group responsible for the mayhem and the killing of the 12 persons in the community.
The PPRO said the killers came to the community through the water ways and equally escaped through the creeks after unleashing their mayhem on the people.
The Police spokesman equally said the command had deployed their team of proactive officers to the scene to ensure safety of lives and property in the troubled area.
Although no person has been arrested in connection with the killings, but the police authority in Port Harcourt said they have extended their drag nets towards combing the suspected killers of the victims.
Reacting to the killings, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barrister Emma Okah while condemning the act attributed the sad incidents to the handiwork of politicians who are power hungry in the state.
He also did not rule out Chieftaincy tussle as the cause of the senseless killings across the communities in the state.
Recall that Chief Minikwu Amadi was hacked down by suspected gunmen in Mgbuosimini community sometime last year while attending a meeting by the Chiefs’ Council and no body was arrested by the police.
