The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has ordered the immediate arrest of the Executive Secretary of Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, Richard Dauda for failing to appear before it despite several summons. Also to be arrested is the Director of Development Control of the FCT, Galadima Muktar.
Invoking section 3. 1 of Legislative House (Powers and Privileges) act of 2017, from where the committee derives its powers, Mike Etaba, the Chairman of the Committee asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to immediately arrest the public officers and bring them to the next hearing of the Committee on March 18, 2025.
The obviously unhappy Chairman wondered why the officers would ignore summons to come and explain why they have refused to do their duties which are apparently putting other Nigerians in distress.
The case before the committee was brought by one Samuel Ajayi against the officers for allowing building infractions in the Gusape area of the Federal Capital.
The Chairman thereafter led members of the committee and journalists to the site for on the spot assessment.
“We have seen first hand what the complaint is all about. We met one Emmanuel who said he is the site engineer. Unfortunately, he does not have the approved building plan. The rest will continue at the committee hearing where we hope to serve justice to Nigerians,” Etaba concluded.
