AGENE GODWIN, Benin
Ahead of the June 18 All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship party primaries in Edo state, a front runner in the race, Comrade Peter Esele has thrown his weight behind the agitation by Edo central senatorial district that it is its turn to produce the next governor.
He however cautioned that while the agitation is germane, the district must seek the support of the other two senatorial districts to be able to achieve its goal.
Esele who also disclosed that ‘Education, Agriculture and reawakening the cultural heritage of the state will be the major focus of his administration if elected as governor said “while I am in full support of the agitation by some leaders in Edo central for an Esan governor, we must bear in mind that the other two senatorial districts must be carried along.
“But in doing this we need to look at the person that can win in the general election, someone who cuts across the other senatorial districts and that person without being immodest is me. We must negotiate with other districts.
“We first must look at the track records and antecedents of that person, his acceptability to other districts and importantly someone who can inspire the younger generation.”
“I believe I have been well groomed in the art of leading people and managing resources. My track records at PENGASAN, TUC even at my age is there for you to see. Our focus will be to reawaken our cultural heritage as means to boost tourism, raise income and create jobs for our people.”
While baring his mind on the forthcoming party primaries, the former trade unionist said “I will settle for a free, fair and credible primaries. Let the delegates decide on who to lead them. I will have an issue if the election is not free and fair.”
