Ibom Angels FC get cash-for-goals boost from award-winning Anietie Ferdinand Udoh

Nigeria Women’s Premier League (NWFL) side, Ibom Angels FC, have received a major boost from retired FIFA referee and NPFL referees’ assessor, Anietie Ferdinand Udoh, who has pledged to reward the team with cash for every goal they score this season.

The Uyo-based club has already received a cash reward for their lone goal in last week’s NWFL Week 3 defeat to Naija Ratels in Abuja.

Speaking to Global Patriot, Udoh, a multiple-times Nigeria Referee of the Year winner, said his gesture was aimed at motivating the team to give their best and secure their top-flight status at the end of the season.

“This is my little way of supporting the team. I want to encourage the players to keep pushing and fighting in every game. Goals win matches, and if this can serve as extra motivation for them to find the back of the net, then I am happy to do it,” Udoh said.

He added “Football is about passion, and as someone who has been involved in the game for years, I believe in supporting our teams however we can. Ibom Angels have talented players, and I want to see them succeed. If rewarding their goals helps push them to perform better, then I am happy to be part of their journey.”

Last season, Udoh extended similar support to Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Dakkada FC, by offering ₦25,000 for every away draw and ₦50,000 for each away victory. His initiative was seen as a significant effort to inspire the team’s performance in the second tier of Nigerian football.

Meanwhile, Ibom Angels will return to NWFL action on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, when they host their next match at the Uyo Township Stadium by 4 PM.
