INEC shuts door on new candidates ahead Anambra Central senatorial re-run election

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that no new candidate will be allowed ahead of the forthcoming Anambra Central Senatorial re-run election billed for March 5.

Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra, Dr Lawrence Azubuike, who stated this in a press statement in Awka, Friday, said no additional aspirant from the political parties will be allowed to contest in the re-run poll of March 5.

“Following the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division judgment on December 7 2015, the re-run election would be held in the zone on March 5.

“Pursuant to the said judgment, only political parties and candidates that participated in March 28, 2015 senatorial election in Anambra central Senatorial District will participate in the re-run election.’

The commissioner called on all stakeholders, voters and citizens to participate in the March 5 re -run election in Anambra Senatorial zone of the state.

The statement said the commission will strictly apply all the provisions of all relevant laws governing the election.

It further stated that all parties, their candidates and supporters, should adhere strictly to all laws and guidelines regulating the process.

The statement urged all duly registered voters to go and cast their votes at the polling units where they were registered.
