UniUyo ASUU gets new executive; Chairman promises all-inclusive leadership

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Uyo branch, has re-elected Dr. Aniekan Brown as its Chairman for a two year tenure with a charge to bear true allegiance to the union’s goals.

Other officers elected are: Dr. Daniel Udo, Secretary, Dr. Romanus Oboh, Assistant Secretary, Dr. Happiness Uduk, Treasurer, Dr. Essien Akpanuko, Financial Secretary, Dr. Effiong Eyefoki, Internal Auditor, Dr. Moses Ekpenyong, Investment Secretary and Dr. Friday Okon, Welfare Officer.

Performing the inauguration of the new executives at the university on Monday, the Coordinator of ASUU, Calabar Zone, Dr. Nsing Ogar urged them to defend the constitution and uphold the principles of the union by showing humility, sacrifice, professionalism, ethical conduct and service to members.

Dr. Ogar, who represented ASUU’s national President, Dr. Nasir F. Isa at the ceremony, felicitated with members of the UNIUYO branch of the union, advising the new team to emulate the past leadership as a model for always producing vibrant officers through transparent electoral processes.

He commended the maturity and selflessness displayed by other contestants, who could not realize their ambitions, for accepting defeat gallantly and pledged to work with the winners.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Dr. Aniekan Brown pledged to discharge his duties with a sense of responsibility, guided by the principles of the union.

Dr. Brown who assured the members, of all inclusive leadership promised to exceed their expectations saying that, “Since individual members make the union strong, ASUU Chairmanship is not an executive one, rather it takes directives from the congress.”
