National Assemby members are not contractors of constituency projects…..Hon. Salame

A member of the House of Representatives, Dr Abdullahi Balarabe Salame, said no member of the National Assembly directly receives fund for the execution of constituency project.
Salame who represents Gwadabawa/Illela federal constituency spoke while briefing journalists in Sokoto.
He said N10 billion was budgeted for each of the six geo political zones in the country for the execution of constituency projects. The money is not released to individual members of the National Assembly. The executive arm disburses the funds to contractors who execute the job.
Salame, who was acting governor of Sokoto in 2008 and former Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly said the lawmakers only assist in identifying projects to be executed for the benefit of the people in the affected constituency.
The lawmaker said he influenced the execution of water, construction of road projects, provision of agric inputs to farmers, construction of blocks of classrooms in his constituency from 2012 to date worth Billions of Naira.
Others were the purchase of motorcycles, sewing machines, tractors, food items which were distributed to members of his constituency.
He also assisted to secure job opportunity for 30 persons in his constituency
Dr Salame disclosed the work on the reconstruction and dualization of Sokoto-Kontagora-Makera to Ilorin-Ibadan road junctions was in progress and would soon be completed for ease of transportation for travellers on the Lagos-Niger-Sokoto route.
The lawmaker informed journalists that he sponsor the motion for the rehabilitation of the Sokoto-Kontagora-Niger state federal road.
Other motions sponsored by the Reps member was for assistance to Nigeria/Niger Republic border communities, motion to investigate alleged incessant killing of people by Customs in Sokoto State and motion to suspend the ban on land borders vehicle importation.
