In view of tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) council poll in the state, the Bauchi State Police Command has restricted movement of persons and vehicles starting from midnight on Friday 16th to 2pm on Saturday 17th, October.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi state, Lawan Tanko Jimeta said this while briefing the press at the Command’s Headquarters on Thursday stating that only essential workers who would be on duty are exempted —and must have valid identification cards.
He also said that the command has put in place adequate security measures that will provide a level playing ground for all the political parties and electorates towards a peaceful local government election in the state.
The CP called on members of the public to come out and cast their votes on the election day without fear of intimidation from any person or groups of persons as the police and other sister security agencies deployed, will man every polling unit.
According to him, the police will deal with any miscreant, political thugs and other disgruntled elements that may attempt to foment trouble before, during and after the election.
The CP added, “in line with the election rules of engagement in the state and for the purpose of smooth conduct of the election, the command has placed the following protocols which include a total restriction of movement of persons and vehicles between the midnight hour of Friday 16th October, 2020 to 2 pm of Saturday 17th October, except those on essential duties who must carry their valid identification cards.”
“All personalities are barred from going to polling units with their security details on the election day. All parties to the elections are to be cautions with all COVID 19 protocols in effect”.
Lawan Jimeta then sought for the support of traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth leaders, parents and guardians to prevail on their subjects not to allow themselves to be used in causing disturbance before, during and after the election as anybody caught will face the full wrath of the law.
