Return detained Nigerian tourists to the country, Dabiri-Erewa tells Cape Verde authorities
ABUJA, APRIL 16, 2025:
Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has appealed to the Immigration authorities in Cape Verde to treat with respect and dignity six Nigerian tourists that are being detained in their facilities and return them immediately on the next available flight to Dakar for onward connection back to the Nigeria.
A statement by NIDCOM, said that the tourists, ranging from 25 to 31 years travelled from Senegal to Cape Verde Island on a vacation and upon arrival, were pulled out of the line, accused of not having sufficient funds and locked up in an immigration deportation camp at the airport.
The statement said further that the six had their phones confiscated and that they are going through distress and trauma, with one of them having a medical condition without having access to his drugs.
NIDCOM said that the families of these young Nigerians whose names are given as David James Udoh, Lily Dada, Oghenero Adaware, Sherifat Abimbola Ogundairo and Jesutomi Aina, and the travel agent / tourist company, ìrìn travels (@irintravels and (@theFARAWAY ), are expectedly worried about their safety, pointing out that the matter has been reported to the Consular and Migration directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
