State and Local Government Civil Servants in Gombe State will start receiving the N70,000 minimum wage recently approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria with effect from the month of October, 2024.

The State Deputy Governor, Manasseh Daniel Jatau, confirmed this to newsmen shortly after a meeting between Government representatives and the National Labour Congress (NLC).

Manasseh Jatau, who chairs the Standing Committee on the Negotiation of the National Minimum Wage, conveyed the approval from Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya but said final details surrounding the implementation to ensure all nitty gritty are addressed, would be presented after 72 hours.

“We have met and discussed with the NLC, and the Governor is determined to implement the new national minimum wage for both State and Local Government workers effective this month of October,” Jatau stated

According to the Deputy Governor, the development marks a significant step in addressing the economic needs of workers in Gombe State and reflects the Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its employees.

He explained further that, “We needed a guideline on how to pay. Immediately we received the guideline, the Governor directed the standing committee to begin the negotiation”.

The Chairman, Gombe State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Yusuf Aish Bello, assured the civil servants in the state that nothing less than the seventy thousand minimum wage will be paid to the workers of Gombe State.

He said the next line of action is to await the technical committee whose report will be submitted in three days time for final approval of payment to the workers.
