United States of America (USA)-based Nigerian American Public Affairs Committee, USA (NAPAC-USA), has hailed as laudable the recent approval, by President Muhammadu Buhari, of a Nigerian Diaspora Investment Trust Fund.

President Buhari announced the approval of the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Trust Fund during the presentation to him at State House, Abuja, of a compendium, +600 Diaspora Icons, a compilation of the profiles of Nigerians in the diaspora who are making major impact in different sectors.

The compendium was produced by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), led by its Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Dr. Nelson Aluya, President of NAPAC-USA, in a statement, made available to GPNews in New Jersey, USA, said in reaction to the approval of the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Trust Fund that the initiative would help increase the capacity and confidence of diaspora investors in the Nigerian economy.

He said that the Fund would lead to economic growth and development for Nigeria through a better structured incentives regime that will encourage small and middle scale industrial establishments to funnel diaspora foreign remittances to Nigeria for direct capital projects and not just to address individual family needs.

Dr. Aluya said that the Trust Fund will also encourage diasporans with common interests to align and organize themselves to form corporations to access funds for projects that will provide jobs, improve economic stability and security that will attract further foreign direct investments.

The President of NAPAC-USA, a more than ten years-old political action committee formed to educate and engage the African Diaspora community in the US to become involved in the political process especially in their places of domicile, also applauded NiDCOM for the publication of the +600 Diaspora Icons compendium.

According to him, the publication “is an impressive and commendable effort to catalog Nigerians who have by their hard work, skills and exceptional talents distinguished themselves in every level of human endeavor across the globe.”

He stressed that the recognition the compendium confers will encourage other Nigerians abroad to conduct themselves in a better manner, as well as represent the country in the best possible manner wherever they live.
