The newly appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, visited Trucks Transit Parks Ltd (TTP), Lagos, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, to explore business opportunities aimed at enhancing port efficiency and reducing congestion at Lagos ports.
During the visit to TTP’s operational office at the Lilypond Container Terminal in Ijora, Dantsoho praised the company’s innovative solutions and dedication to improving port operations. He emphasised his goal of leveraging TTP’s systems to streamline port processes, cut down cleaning times, and reduce costs.
The visit included a comprehensive tour of TTP’s facilities, showcasing their truck traffic management systems and real-time CCTV monitoring. Dantsoho was briefed on the impact of TTP’s electronic call-up system since its inception in 2021 and was presented with a video demonstrating TTP’s proposed e-tag/RFID innovation, which is set to revolutionize port operations.
Impressed by TTP’s achievements, Dantsoho underscored the importance of continued collaboration between the NPA and TTP. He also advocated the adoption of renewable energy to minimize carbon emissions and promote sustainable port operations.
“For long-term projects, TTP should consider renewable energy to cut down emissions and carbon footprint,” Dantsoho said.
In response, Jama Onwubuariri, Managing Director of TTP, expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed TTP’s commitment to partnering with the NPA. He highlighted that TTP’s e-tag and RFID system, which has been fully funded by TTP, is ready for implementation pending NPA approval. The system has already been tested successfully at the Lagos Port Complex.
Onwubuariri also announced plans to set up a command and control center at the NPA headquarters in Marina to improve visibility and coordination of truck traffic around the ports and terminals.
“Our commitment to innovation and excellence in port management is unwavering. We are excited about the potential of our e-tag/RFID technology to streamline operations and set new standards for efficiency and sustainability in the industry,” said Onwubuariri.
The visit concluded with a strong commitment from both the NPA and TTP to work together in addressing challenges and driving growth within Nigeria’s maritime industry, aiming to create a more efficient, secure, and sustainable port ecosystem.
