Nze Anizor
History was made when a Nigerian, Dr. Nze Anizor, led Rotary International District 9141, to top the leadership ranking among the more than 529 Rotary Districts in the world. District 9141 comprises all the Rotary Clubs in Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, and Rivers states. Dr. Anizor served the District as Governor from 1st July, 2019 to 30th June, 2020.

Rotary, an international humanitarian service organization, is most popular for the End Polio Now initiative which seeks to eradicate polio from the world. Nigeria was declared polio – free by the World Health Organization.

Rotary Clubs execute projects in different areas including education; water, sanitation, and hygiene; disease prevention and treatment; peace building and conflict resolution; community economic development; maternal and child health; etc.

Under the Dust -to-Desk Project of District 9141, more than 1100 school desks were donated to schools in the District, and about 4300 pupils and students lifted from the dust to desks.

Membership is Rotary’s highest internal priority. At the end of the 2019 – 2020 year which ended on 30th June, 2020, Dr. Anizor led his District to achieve the highest membership per capita net gain in the world. The District also outperformed others in the percentage of new clubs formed in relation to the existing ones. It formed twenty one new clubs which is 33.3% of its number on 1st July, 2019 when the team came into office. In the overall membership net gain, District 9141 took the second position with a net gain of 738 members.

The high impact of the 2019 – 2020 team was also felt in the area of Rotaract where membership increased from 480 to 1258. Nineteen new Interact clubs were formed, while the number of Rotary Community Corps grew from five to 37.

According to Dr. Anizor, ‘2019 – 2020 was truly a phenomenal year. We owe it all to the support of our Rotarians and friends, especially the District Membership Committee led by Anthony Olikagu; and Rotary leaders in the District including the immediate past Rotary International Vice – President Olayinka Babalola.”

He urged Rotarians to support his successor, Rotarian Virginia Major, to take the District to even greater heights, to the benefit of the communities.
