Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, have qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. They are set to face a familiar opponent, the USA, in what promises to be an exciting rematch.

The Flamingos secured their spot in the knockout stage after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Dominican Republic in their final group game. Shakirat Moshood scored a stunning 24-yard goal in the 89th minute to give Nigeria the win.

Coach Bankole Olowookere made some changes to his lineup for the match, bringing in Rokibat Azeez, Blessing Ifitezue, and Ramotalahi Kareem to replace Onyedikachi Ekezie, Peace Effiong, and Harmony Chidi.

With this win, Nigeria finished their group stage with 9 points, while Ecuador, who beat New Zealand 4-0, finished with 6 points. Ecuador will now face Spain in the next round, while the Flamingos prepare for their quarterfinal clash with the USA on Saturday.

The match between Nigeria and the Dominican Republic also made history as it had the highest attendance for any Dominican Republic national team, with a record crowd of 13,535 spectators.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the quarterfinal rematch between Nigeria and the USA, hoping the Flamingos can continue their impressive run in the tournament.
