Obi condemns terror attack in Borno, laments death of Onanuga
Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi has condemned the recent terrorist attack and ambush in Borno State that claimed lives and left many missing, noting that “it is a grim reminder of the persistent security challenges facing our nation.”
The former Governor of Anambra State, who pointed out in an X (former Twitter) post that the “tragedy highlights the urgent need for the government to intensify efforts to secure the country,” also called on the authorities to be resolute in the fight against terrorism, and “deploy all available resources to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice.”
He urged that the nation’s “security personnel on the frontlines must be adequately equipped, supported, and motivated to tackle these threats effectively,” noting that “as a nation, we must rise above politics to confront this menace,” pointing out that “insecurity is not just a government challenge; it requires a united front from all stakeholders – community leaders, religious leaders, civil society, and every citizen.”
He also commiserated with the grieving families: “no words can fully convey the depth of our sorrow for your loss. Your pain is shared by all Nigerians, and our thoughts and prayers are with you in this moment of profound grief. Together, we must remain steadfast in our resolve to build a secure and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
In another X post, Mr. Obi expressed sadness over the death of the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, noting that “her demise is a profound loss, not only to her family and colleagues but to the nation at large, given her remarkable contributions to the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North constituency of Ogun State and her service in the legislature.”
He condoled with Onanuga’s family, friends, and colleagues in the National Assembly and prayed the Almighty God to “grant her eternal rest and bring solace to her loved ones during this difficult time.”
