Obi, Kwankwaso, Utomi, others celebrate Obasanjo at 89

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and political economist, Professor Patrick (Pat) Utomi were among dignitaries that gathered in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, yesterday, Thursday, March 5, 2026, to celebrate the 89th birthday of former President and elder statesman, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
Other big wigs who graced the star-studded event include the Governor of Ogun State, Chief Dapo Abiodun, former Governor of the gateway State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
In a post on his X (former Twitter) platform, Mr. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State said he was in Abeokuta to celebrate Chief Obasanjo, the two-time former President of Nigeria who “remains a towering statesman, an exceptional leader of our time whose voice continues to resonate in the affairs of our nation.”
Obi, who is presently a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressed that he admires Chief Obasanjo’s “steadfastness, courage, and deep sense of justice and patriotism.”
He noted further that over the years, Obasanjo “has stood as a strong advocate for national unity and a fearless critic of bad governance, constantly reminding leaders that Nigeria must rise above divisions and work together for the common good.” He also insisted that the elder statesman’s “moral sense of right and wrong has made him the conscience of the nation.”
Obi then prayed God to “continue to bless him with good health, wisdom, and many more years of service to Nigeria and humanity.”
