A federal lawmaker, Chief Sam Onuigbo, on Friday declared his intention to run for Abia Central Senatorial District in the forthcoming 2023 elections.

Onuigbo, representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia, declared on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said that his motivation was to redefine representation in Abia Central and make it more people-centered.

He said that his political philosophy is anchored on the principles of Effectiveness, Accessibility and Responsiveness (EAR).

Onuigbo said that the philosophy had throughout his period at the House Representatives, ensured that he addressed the needs of his constituents in a balanced way.

He said that his representation would be given life by the legitimate needs and aspirations of his people.

The two-term legislator enumerated what he described as colossal projects he conceived and implemented in his constituency as parts of his track record at the House of Representatives.

“My great people of Abia Central, 2023 presents us with the most viable time in our lifetime to begin the process of all-round development and growth, anchored on visionary leadership and representation.

“We cannot afford to make mistakes as doing so will set us back decades and harmfully impact on our children and children’s children,” he said.

The State Chairman of APC, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, represented by Mr Grant Nwogu, expressed confidence that Onuigbo would perform creditably if given the chance.

Ononogbu lauded Onuigbo’s leadership qualities, saying that his good works would always speak for him.

“We want to see more people like you in leadership because this is the time to hand over the leadership of our state to people who are honest. We are happy to have you,” he said.

Some of the party stalwarts took turns to laud Onuigbo in their goodwill speeches.

Abia Central Senatorial seat is currently occupied by Sen. Theodore Orji, the former governor of the state.
