Onyeka Onwenu throws hat in the ring; To challenge Okorocha/Izunaso for Orlu zone senatorial seat

Celebrated singer, actress and activist, Onyeka Onwenu, fondly referred to as the Elegant Stallion, has indicated interest in contesting the Senatorial seat of Orlu Zone in Imo State, Nigeria.

Presently, Governor Rochas Okorocha is listed as a contestant for the same position on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Former Senator and APC big wig, Senator Osita Izunaso is, however, in court trying to snatch the APC ticket from Okorocha who is at the moment, at daggers drawn with the leadership of the party, especially the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, over the governorship ticket which he wants for his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu.

Senator Hope Uzodinma is presently listed as the guber candidate of the APC for Imo State.

Onyeka Onwenu’s entry into the senatorial race for Orlu zone on the platform of a relatively new and little known party, Young Democratic Party (YDP), is said to be already causing concerns as she is known to be a grassroots mobilizer, a performer and a darling of the youths.

Her letter communicating her intention to stakeholders said that “it is time to step out and help stop the rot in the system.”

It is believed that she will give whoever eventually emerges the candidate of the APC and the other parties a run for their money and that if she makes it to the upper chamber of the country’s apex legislature, she will make a difference.

The letter in full reads:

Greetings In Jesus Name.

I wish to inform you that I will be presenting myself as a Candidate for the Senatorial seat of Orlu Zone, in Imo State, under the banner of the Young Democratic Party(YDP).

It is time to step out and help stop the rot in the system.

I look forward to sharing my Vision with you and I thank you for your support, in advance.
