The National Population Commission (NPC) on Sunday urged households in Sokoto State to sustain more cooperation to enable the success of the ongoing trial census exercise in the state.
Alhaji Chiso Dattijo, the NPC National Commissioner in charge of Sokoto, made the assertion while briefing newsmen at Tungar Shibkau, in Shagari Local Government Area of the state.
Dattijo said the information gathered from the ongoing trail Census across the state would only be used for statistical and developmental planning in the 2023 headcount across the country.
According to him the ongoing trial census was part of the preparation for the April 2023 census and it is going on in nine out of the 23 local government areas of the state.
He said no fewer than 80 enumerators and nine supervisors were designated to carry out the trail enumeration exercise in the state.
“We have successfully completed the numbering of buildings and identifying the households and now we begun the enumeration of persons across our target areas.
“This exercise is in order to complement our main census in April 2023 in which the data taken would offer the opportunity to test the full data production system for the digital census,” he said.
He further appealed to the people in the state to sustain more support for NPC, stating that the exercise is for the benefit of today, tomorrow and future generations.
On Security, the National Commissioner said that the commission has taken all the necessary measures toward ensuring the safety of all its adhoc staff throughout the exercise.
On his part, Alhaji Aliyu Dantanin, the Chairman, Shagari Local Government Council, appreciated NPC for the exercise.
“We at the local government level will continue to educate our people to ensure full compliance throughout the exercise,” he said.
One of the enumerators, Mr. Fahad Garba, said the assignment is going on smoothly, saying, “We have the full support and understanding of the community leaders.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other local government areas selected for the trial census in the state includes, Tureta, Tambuwal, Silame, Wamakko, Sokoto South, Rabah, Wurno and Gwadabawa.
