Over 200 Abuja residents benefit from ACE Pharmacy medical outreach

Prof. Isaac Adewole, Health Minister

More than 200 residents within Wuye District and adjoining villages of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over the weekend benefited from the free medical outreach organised by ACE Pharmacy Ltd, a community pharmacy with branches  scattered in both  Wuye and Utako districts.

The yearly Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme by ACE Pharmacy Ltd is coming on the heels of absence of hospitals, clinics and even Primary Health Care centre in the community because of sheer neglect by the federal government and the Federal Capital Territory Administration(FCTA), where a major estate, Finance Quarters and Ultra- Modern market are located.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman and Proprietor of the Pharmacy, Pharmacist Chibuzor Ezeani lamented the high rate of untimely deaths and infant mortality owing to lack of basic medical institutions within the district and called on the FCTA to urgently take the bull by the horn to establish even a primary health care centre to assuage the sufferings of the people.

The  medical outreach which entailed the following at no cost to the beneficiaries, include but not limited to mass de-worming, malaria treatment, treatment of skin and other common infections, sugar and blood pressure checks and HIV tests with the beneficiary’s consent.

He said that medical cases that cannot be handled at the outreach were always referred to General Hospitals near the Wuye district, adding that the outreach programme is the flagship of ACE PHARMACY LTD’s end of year Corporate Social Responsibility to the operating environment.

Two beneficiaries, Sunday Banji and Isa Abdulahi applauded the gesture from the organisers and called on the appropriate authorities to as a matter of urgency establish a medical institution within the district, while at the same time appealing to well meaning Nigerians to extend their hands of fellowship to the needy within the community.

The outreach was anchored by the following health practitioners:  Mrs. Aisha Jakada (retired Chief Nursing officer State House Medical Centre, Abuja),  Dr. Nubwa Megudu (FWACP),   Dr.  Mike Enwere,  Pharm (Mrs) Chinelo Ezeani wife of the Proprietor,   Pharm Felix Eze, Pharm Sylvia Onyenwuzo,  Pharm Festus Onwuanibe and   Ifechukwu Okoye  who is the Medical  Laboratory Scientist of the outreach.
