Pan-African movement set to celebrate African activist in Ghana

Abuja, Aug. 5, 2024

The Africans Rising, a Pan-African movement, says it is set to celebrate and honour African activists who have distinguished themselves on the continent with different categories of awards.

Ms. Ann Lorna, Communications and Media Lead, Africans Rising, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja, adding that selected activists would be honoured with awards at the event slated for Aug. 31, in Accra, Ghana.

She described the award launched in 2019 to showcase activism as a worthy cause in the African society, saying it is a token of appreciation to activists who have distinguished themselves.

According to her, the award was also launched to encourage such activists to continue doing their work aimed at ensuring a better Africa for Africans.

She noted that in spite of the enormous challenges activists go through with their families and communities, they braved through and have refused to relent.

“The award is therefore, a token of appreciation to all activists to encourage them to continue doing their work aimed at birthing a better Africa for all Africans.

“Debuting in 2022, the awards are presented in three categories: Activist of the Year, Movement of the Year, and Artistic Activist of the Year, Lorna said.

She said for each category, two final nominees were chosen to represent North Africa, East Africa, Central Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa, and the Diaspora.
