The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of working against the party while still claiming to be a member.

In a press statement, the PDP said Wike openly declared himself the “number one supporter” of the presumed All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election during his end-of-year media chat. The party said this confirms its long-standing claim that Wike has been involved in anti-party activities.

The PDP described Wike as a “permanent agent provocateur”, accusing him of repeatedly creating crises in the party to serve his personal interests.

“This fact, which he has unashamedly reiterated in several places, is nothing less than a classic case of anti-democratic behaviour,” the statement said.

According to the party, Wike’s conduct is not new. It recalled that since becoming Rivers State governor in 2015, he has played a role in several leadership crises within the PDP. The party said Wike first supported Ali Modu Sheriff as national chairman before later leading efforts to remove him. It added that he also pushed for Uche Secondus to become chairman, only to later fight for his removal.

The statement further alleged that Wike was instrumental in the emergence of Dr Iyorchia Ayu as PDP national chairman and later led calls for Ayu to step down.

Beyond national politics, the PDP criticised Wike’s actions in Rivers State. It accused him of imposing candidates, excluding party members and preventing a PDP presidential candidate from campaigning in a PDP-controlled state.

“The imposition of candidates and the prevention of a duly nominated presidential candidate from campaigning remain troubling departures from democratic norms,” the party said.

The PDP also claimed that Wike’s politics thrives on constant conflict and attention. It said his recent media comments showed fear of losing influence, control of Rivers State and relevance within the party.

“Recent public statements now make it clear that Wike and his group have chosen to work against the PDP in favour of an opposing political platform,” the statement added.

The party said Nigerians are now aware that Wike and his allies have openly declared support for the APC and the President, which it described as an attempt to damage the PDP for personal gain.

“We remind Wike that agreements made to achieve illegal purposes are not enforceable and should not be encouraged,” the statement said.

Despite the controversy, the PDP assured Nigerians that it remains strong and united. “We will field a credible presidential candidate who will enjoy massive support and win the 2027 elections,” the party said, stressing that no individual can personalise or destroy the PDP.

The statement added that the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee is working to rebuild the party, resolve court cases and prepare for success in 2027.

The statement was signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, and dated December 29, 2025.
