Manchester City have announced that long-serving manager Pep Guardiola will leave the club after Sunday’s final game of the season.
Guardiola will bow out after guiding City to 17 major trophies, including six Premier League titles during his 10 years at the club.
The Spaniard’s final match in charge will be against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.
According to reports, City had already started preparing for Guardiola’s exit before the end of his contract next year.
“Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving,” Guardiola said. “There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time.
“Nothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City.”
Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, who once worked as Guardiola’s assistant at City, is now being linked with the manager’s position.
The news of Guardiola’s departure came shortly after City lost the 2025/26 Premier League title race to Arsenal.
City’s draw with AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday handed Arsenal their first league crown in 22 years.
Guardiola joined City in 2016 from Bayern Munich to replace Manuel Pellegrini.
During his time in England, City broke several records, including becoming the first Premier League side to reach 100 points in a single season in 2017/18.
In the 2022/23 season, Guardiola led City to a historic Treble by winning the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in the same campaign. They became only the second English club after Manchester United to achieve the feat.
City also made history by winning four consecutive Premier League titles between 2021 and 2024.
Although he is leaving his role as manager, the club confirmed Guardiola will continue working with the City Football Group as a global ambassador.
Before arriving in England, Guardiola enjoyed successful spells with Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona, where he established himself as one of football’s greatest coaches.
As a player, he also enjoyed a brilliant career with Barcelona and represented the Spain national football team before retiring in 2006.
