Peter Obi mourns former IGP Solomon Arase

Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has described former Inspector General of Police (IGP), the late Dr. Solomon Arase, as a man who served Nigeria “with dedication, bringing to his office a sense of duty, discipline, and patriotism.”
The former Governor of Anambra State, who expressed sadness at the passage of the immediate past Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), noted that his contributions “to policing and security reforms remain commendable.”
Mr. Obi recalled, in an X (former Twitter) post that he had, earlier this year attended the public presentation of Dr. Arase’s two books, “where his intellect, deep reflections on national security, and commitment to institutional strengthening were once again evident.”
He said further, that “Only a few weeks ago, I spoke with him, and in his characteristic manner, he expressed an enduring optimism that our country would rise again. That hope and faith in Nigeria defined his outlook on life and service.
“At this difficult time, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and the Nigeria Police Force. May God grant him eternal rest, and give all who mourn him the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss,” Obi concluded.
