POEM: SOLILOQUY By Ozichukwu Chukwu

Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu

Me:
When shadow splits,
The soul dies;
The body, rots.
The Ages speak,
The times are weak.

Achebe:
“NO BODY CAN DEFEAT HIS CLAN.”

I wake up with the Westminster Chimes:

“Lord, through this hour
Be Thou our Guide
So by Thy power
No foot shall slide.”

“Weave around us a garment of brightness.”

And as with Hopkins,
I urge our youths:

“Climb high
Climb far
Your goal the sky
Your aim the star.”

And with the Soldier:

“Stay with me, God
The night is dark
The night is cold
My little spark
Of courage dies
The night is long,
Be with me, God
And make me strong”.

And with the Elders adopt the term of the Treaty:

“As long as the moon shall arise
As long as the rivers shall flow
As long as the sun shall shine
As long as the grass shall grow”.

Plus our, Night Chat:
“May it be beautiful around us
For in beauty, it is finished.”
In the Name of the Infinite God we worship,
Forever and ever.
