Political parties in Enugu laud Ugwuanyi’s achievements

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), the umbrella body comprising all the political parties in Enugu state has commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his administration’s accomplishments so far in office.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Enugu, the group led by its chairman, Barrister John Nwobodo, assured the governor of its support and cooperation to ensure the administration succeeds, noting that its members were open to collaboration with the state government as such would promote more inclusiveness.

The organisation also urged the governor to consider the completion of some “uncompleted projects” such as the International Conference Centre started by the Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani administration, pointing out that their completion would boost the state’s economic fortune.

Nwobodo explained that the visit is an opportunity to commend and applaud the milestones the governor has recorded and its “robust delivery on effective governance notwithstanding the meager resources accruable to the state due to the drop in price of oil.”

He expressed the group’s commitment to embrace a new political culture of tolerance and accommodation, adding that they are placing the state above personal or party interest “because first of all we are indigenes of Enugu State before we joined political parties as political parties will come and go and we shall remain indigenes of Enugu State.”

Governor Ugwuanyi thanked the leaders of the political parties for the support and solidarity they have accorded his administration since its inauguration despite obvious political differences.

The governor noted that it was based on his vision to ensure a more peaceful and prosperous state, that he declared his willingness to cooperate and partner with all political stakeholders in the state on assumption of office.

“Your response to that invitation has been more than positive and encouraging,” he said to a resounding applause. “It demonstratesmaturity and a deep interest in the promotion of peace, unity and a sense of common purpose which are prerequisites for rapid and sustainable development in any society.”

He expressed optimism that their visit is an opportunity to consolidate the relationship and also a platform to interface on issues that affect the state. “I thank you for your kind compliments on the modest efforts we have made – and are making – to improve the lives of our people,” he said, assuring them that his administration will not relent despite the economic difficulties facing the country.
