Pregnant woman, son die of kerosene explosion in Enugu

Kerosene explosion has killed a pregnant woman and her four-year old son in Enugu.

The incident which occurred on Monday at Ngenevu axis of the coal camp Enugu left other people with various degrees of severe burn injuries.

According to a release by Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, the husband of the deceased, Hillary Ugwuoke had allegedly bought kerosene from a neighbour in the evening which he later poured into his lantern and in the attempt to light the lantern, the kerosene exploded and burst into flames.

In the process the said Hillary, his pregnant wife and his children were burnt by the inferno.

Sympathizers reportedly assisted in their being taken to National Orthopeadic hospital Enugu for medical assistance.

Amaraizu said that it was further gathered that at the hospital, Mrs Ugwuoke who is said to be pregnant was confirmed dead together with her four- year old son while others who sustained severe burns were receiving treatment.

He said that investigations into the incident have begun by police operatives with a view to finding out the likely cause of the incident.
