Prelate Mbang, first black President of the World Methodist Council, dies at 86

The Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, and first black President of the World Methodist Council (WMC), Dr. Sunday Coffie Mbang, has passed on at the age 86, the Methodist Church has announced.

In a letter released on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the Church announced that Prelate Mbang passed away on Tuesday May 16, 2023, and will be missed by the Methodist Church, his family, the Christian community and Akwa Ibom State where he had the status of spiritual father.

A former President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), late Mbang, according to family sources, died on Tuesday night in his sleep after a brief illness.

In his last days on earth, the late Cleric spent time in his abode where he received visitors and attended to various activities, which included his inputs towards the emergence of Pst. Umo Eno as Akwa Ibom State Governor-elect.
