Drone attacks around Moscow foiled – Russian defence forces
Moscow, Sept. 5, 2023
Russian officials have said that air defences intercepted drones south-west, west and north-west of Moscow overnight.
“Tonight, air defence forces destroyed drones in the Kaluga and Istra areas that attempted an attack on Moscow,’’ Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote on his Telegram channel.
The Russian military said that, later it had intercepted another aircraft in the Tver region north-west of Moscow.
Falling debris caused damage in the Istra district, Sobyanin said.
He did not provide further details on what was damaged or the severity.
Moscow’s Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo airports were temporarily closed and flights diverted.
Both airports were only able to resume normal operations on Tuesday morning.
Russia has waged war on Ukraine for more than 18 months, repeatedly bombarding its neighbour with drones and missiles.
