This is as he has warmly congratulated eminent academic and former federal minister, Prof. Tamunoemi Sokari David-West as he turns 80 years on Thursday, August 26th, 2016.

The Nigerian military, leading a multi-national force, has been battling the insurgents, recording remarkable successes in recent times while the President, the Governor of Zamfara state and other well meaning Nigerians have condemned as barbaric the killings in Zamfara state, promising to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book..
Another vexatious issue are the cases of the crippling polio virus that were recently recorded in Borno state, clearly a consequence of the insurgency that rendered some parts of the war-ravaged Borno state inaccessible to aid workers and health officials that would otherwise have been administering the polio vaccines in those areas.
In the other development, a statement by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President, Media& Publicity, said, “On this special birthday anniversary, President Buhari recalls, with fond memories, his long term relationship with the elder statesman, when he served as Minister of Petroleum, 1984-1985.
“The President commends Prof. David-West’s steadfastness and forthrightness on issues of good governance, democracy, human rights and the unity of Nigeria, especially when some seem to easily give up on the project of building one great nation.
“President Buhari assures the octogenarian that his place in Nigeria’s history is guaranteed for the statesmanship, fearlessness, intellectual depth, resourcefulness and versatility that he brought into public discourse,” concluding that “the President prays that the almighty God will continue to grant the former minister good health and more fruitful years of service to his fatherland.”
