President Bola Tinubu on Saturday in Maiduguri commended Gov. Babagana Zulum for sustained investments in education, health and transportation to improve livelihoods in Borno.
Tinubu spoke while inaugurating electric vehicles, intra-state buses, tricycles, and three model primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools built by the state government.
“I am inaugurating these primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools to the glory of God and for the continuous education of our children,” the president said.
At the EV inauguration, Tinubu said the smart and visionary projects would ease intra-city transportation and economically empower residents.
He said such investments aligned with his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and sustainable urban mobility across the country.
The president later attended the marriage ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno Governor, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, and his bride, Hadiza Kam Salem.
Tinubu stood in as father of the groom, in line with Kanuri culture, while Gov. Zulum represented the bride’s family to receive the traditional bride price.
The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar El-Kanemi, hosted the ceremony at the Maiduguri Central Mosque.
The event was attended by Governors Dikko Radda of Katsina, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun.
Several ministers, senators and senior government officials were also present.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has renamed the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University.
He announced this on Saturday during a condolence visit to the state government and members of the family of the late scholar.
Tinubu described the late Sheikh as a man who loved humanity, brought impactful knowledge to the people and worked hard on the path of the Almighty Allah.
“From today onward, I will announce change of name to immortalise him from the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, to be known as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University.
“We all came from the Almighty Allah and we will return to Him. And the best thing for us is to continue to pray for peace, stability of our country, for economic prosperity, development and to live the value that he left behind.
“May Allah grant him Al-Janah Firdaus. May God continue to keep all of you safe, keep our country together, give us peace and prosperity,” he said.

Gov. Bala Mohammed commended the president over the condolence visit to the government and the family of the late Sheikh.
Mohammed said for the president to have come down himself after previously sending Vice President Kashim Shettima during the burial rites showed the kind of affinity and respect he had for the late Sheikh, the family and the people of the state.
“We are really grateful and delighted for this visit,” he said.
Earlier, Dr Bashir Sheikh Dahiru-Bauchi, who spoke on behalf of the family, expressed gratitude to the president for sending a high profile delegation to attend the funeral prayer of the late Sheikh, and for his condolence visit to the family.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tinubu headed to the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport immediately after the visit to depart for Lagos.
