Ramadan: Gov. Sani Bello decries high cost of food items

Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has appealed to market women and men to be considerate and avoid exploiting the masses this Ramadan season.
The governor in a statement in Minna, Wednesday, by his Chief Press Secretary, Jibrin Baba Ndace, lamented that cost of basic food items is going out of the reach of the masses, hence the need for market women and men to be considerate.
Gov. Sani Bello who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace said that traders are now fond of hiking the prices of their goods, especially those dealing with the sales of food items during the Ramadan period.
“As much as I believe that our traders must make profit on their investment, I want to appeal to our market women and men to be considerate and avoid exploiting our people in this holy month of Ramadan.
“A sad trend I noticed recently among our market women and men is the habit of increasing the cost of food items during fasting period under the conviction that people must patronise them, hence they hike prices of their stuff, this act is un-Islamic and sacrilegious”.
Gov. Sani Bello also urged Muslim leaders in the country to effectively use the month of purity to preach peace and tolerance among all the ulamas and faithful of other religions.
“Allah in His infinite mercy brought all of us, irrespective of creed, religion and race together, we should learn to tolerate one another, that is why, I am imploring all our Malams and Imams to use the Ramadan period to preach peace and tolerance”.
The governor further call on ulamas to spend quality time during this holy period to seek the face of Allah for the peace, progress and unity of the country.
“While our leaders at the various levels of governance are striving to find solutions to the various challenges facing the country, we the led should not only support them but ensure that we use this period to pray for our country and our state. We have to be patient, prayerful and optimistic that it will be well with our country”.
Governor Sani Bello, however, assured Nigerlites of his administration’s determination to ensure conducive environment for all to aspire and attain their potentials in an atmosphere of peace and security for the growth of the state and the country.
