Officials of Kalabalge local government area of Borno state have put the death toll in the Rann Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp military jet misfire at 236 .

The Committee Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Babagana Malarima said “Yes! Two hundred and thirty four bodies have been buried by the community. And it’s even more than this. The report I received from Maiduguri this morning is that two who are in the hospital have also died putting the death toll to 236.”

He called on the federal government to compensate them for their huge loss and build roads that would link them to other parts of the state, as according to him, assessing Cameroun is easier for them than Gamboru Ngala, which is barely 30 kilometers away.

“Our problem since this local government was created about twenty years now; we need a road to link this headquarter to other parts of the state. The second thing is with what happened now we are begging Mr president to compensate us. Many people have lost their loved, most of them are the bread winners. About two hundred and thirty four people it’s not a small number; we need to compensate these people,” the chairman stated.

It could be recalled that last week Tuesday a military fighter jet accidentally dropped bombs on the IDP Camp in Rann, killing several IDPs and humanitarian workers, while many others were injured.

Babagana Malarima maintained that the extent of the destruction of lives and property calls for federal government intervention by way of compensation of survivors.
