International Association of Women Judges Conference ends in South Africa (See pictures)







The 17th Biennial Conference of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) holding in Cape Town, South Africa, will officially end tomorrow, Saturday, April 12, 2025, but the memories of the historic gathering of women jurists from all over the world will linger for a long time to come.
The Conference, which had as its theme, “Resilience: Women in Leadership to End Gender-Based Violence & Femicide,” started on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, was declared open, amidst lots of fanfare, by South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa.
The event witnessed many exciting moments and cheery flags-waving accomplished women judges and experts in different areas of the legal profession as well as women’s rights activists from all over the world, discussing very pressing issues of the moment, especially as concerns women’s rights and strategies to be adopted to end gender-based violence and femicide.
The South African Chapter of the IAWJ was the host of this year’s Conference which recorded a large turnout of participants, including women jurists and other experts from different states in Nigeria.
Among the delegates who attended the Conference from Nigeria are Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Hon, Justice Chioma Iheme and Hon Justice Chidi Uwa, as well as High Court Judges, like Hon Justice Victoria Isiguzo, Hon Justice Okwuchi Okoroji and Hon Justice Ihuoma Grace Chukwunyere.
Knowledgeable and inspiring Keynote speakers and panelists shared valuable information and career enhancing experiences with the participants who have also had the opportunity to network with their colleagues from other parts of the world.
As they depart Cape Coast, it is expected that the participants would be leaving far better than when they arrived, especially in terms of new knowledge acquired, new networks established and possibly new tourist sites visited.
