Report police corruption, indiscipline cases — DSP Mohammed urges Bauchi public

RUTH DAVID, Bauchi
The Bauchi State Police Command has advised members of the public to report cases of corruption by any police officer to the police authorities in their localities, promising that justice will be done accordingly.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, who said this during a one-day Bauchi Town Hall meeting with stakeholders on corruption at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Bauchi, assured that the Police remains committed to ensuring that the rights of citizens are protected.
DSP Mohammed stated that: “The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has initiated a good platform called “Operation stop the bribe” through which members of the public can report cases of corruption in the Police force.”
He added that “whoever feels he is intimidated, surcharged, extorted and exploited by the Police should take advantage of this platform on the website and write his or her complaint to the IGP and I guarantee that appropriate action will be taken.
“Another alternative whereby members of the public can get justice is by reporting directly to the Police Divisional Office or to the Police Area Command and if such a person is still not satisfied, he can report directly to the Commissioner of Police in the state.”
The PPRO said that bail was free to all citizens in the state, hence, it is wrong for members of the public to offer money to bail themselves or their loved ones, warning that any officer caught in such an act will be punished.
According to him, in cases of emergency like distress, road accidents, fire outbreaks and crime, members of the public should call the Bauchi Police Control Room by dialling 08151849497.
DSP Mohammed then assured that the state Police command would provide a safe and secure environment for the socio-economic development of the state.
