Mr. Yusuf Olaniyonu, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has denied reports that the Senate President would resign, Wednesday 13 April, 2016.
There had been reports, especially on online platforms that the Senate President had written his resignation letter based on allegations that there was new conclusive evidence that the Panama Papers that linked some world leaders to tax evasion had had indicted him.
The reports also said that the Senate President had also become overwhelmed by the ongoing Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, case against him as well as by pressures on him by some of his colleagues in the upper chamber and political circles generally and had decided to throw in the table.
Before now, however, Senator Saraki had vigorously denied any wrongdoing in the Panama Papers matter and has continued with his defence in the CCT case, insisting that the allegations against him had strong political undertones.
The report s of his resignation therefore came as a surprise. Reacting to the reports, Mr. Olaniyonu said, it was untrue in its entirety , stressing that “those waiting and hoping for that (his resignation) will wait till the day of the Qiyahmo.”
