‘See you in court,’ Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan tells Akpabio in response to fresh ₦200 Billion lawsuit

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central says she has received a newly filed ₦200 billion lawsuit from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who is accusing her of defamation over allegations of sexual harassment.

In a statement on Friday, 5 December 2025, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said she was “glad” the matter was now going to court. She explained that the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges had previously refused to hear her complaint, saying they could not handle an issue that was already before a court, referring to a separate defamation case filed by Akpabio’s wife.

According to her, she could not take the matter to court earlier because Senate rules require her to first present her complaint to the Ethics Committee — the same committee that recommended her suspension, which she described as illegal.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said the new lawsuit now gives her an opportunity to “prove” her allegations.

She stated that she would show evidence of the alleged sexual harassment and how, according to her, her refusal to comply with Akpabio’s alleged demands led to “unprovoked attacks” against her.

“See you in court, Godswill Akpabio,” she wrote.

Senator Akpabio has not publicly responded to her new comments at the time of this report.
