Rivers United FC depart for Tanzania to face Young Africans

Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) Champions, Rivers United FC have departed the country for Tanzania where they will face Young Africans SC in a CAF Confederation Cup 2nd-leg tie.

The Nigerian side were airlifted onboard Ethiopian Airlines en-route Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

Rivers United FC trail 0-2 on aggregate following a disappointing loss at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Sunday April 27, 2023.

Congolese striker Fitson Maleye scored both goals as the Tanzanians got the better of Rivers United FC in the first leg.

The return leg is scheduled to hold on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the 60,000 capacity Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Pride of Rivers requested and got a rescheduling of their Federation Cup tie against Enyimba International FC which was billed for Wednesday April 26 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Extended rest is expected to help the Stanley Eguma tutored players recover from the effects of playing at least three games a week in the last two months as they push for a comeback to rescue their CAF Confederation Cup aspiration.
