Rivers United FC hold Etoile Filante to CAF Confederation Cup first leg draw

Rivers United FC of Nigeria have held Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante to a 0-0 draw in their CAF Confederation second qualifying round clash decided on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

The CAF Confederation Cup second qualifying round first leg match took place at the Stade De Yamassokuro in Burkina Faso.

Rivers United FC were disciplined defensively and threatened the opposition goal on few occasions but there was no goal in Yamassokuro, leaving the encounter open ahead of the return leg in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Rivers United FC will host Etoile Filante on October 1, 2023, hoping to secure a win to progress to the group stage of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

A familiar circumstance it will be for Etoile Filante, having been progressed to this stage on away goals, following a 0-0, 1-1 score against Casa Sports Ziguinchor of Senegal.

The Pride of Rivers, were drawn bye for the preliminary round and so were playing their first continental fixture of the 2023/2024 in Yamassokuro.

Rivers United FC Head Coach, Stanley Eguma, will hope his lads can get the job done at home, to seal a group stage spot. 

Last season, Rivers United FC reached the quarter-finals stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
