Rivers United, Plateau United secure convincing CAF Confederation Cup playoff victories

Nigerian clubs, Rivers United FC and Plateau United FC have secured convincing wins in their respective CAF Confederation Cup playoff first leg games.

Rivers United FC thrashed Libya’s El Nasr Benghazi 5-0 at the Adokieye Amasiamaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Wednesday afternoon.

Goals From Joseph Onoja, Kazie Enyinnaya , Paul Acquah, Ebube Duru and Malachi Ohawume capped a ruthless evening for the NPFL Champions in front of their fans.

Rivers United FC will thus head into the return leg on November 9, with the healthy 5-0 aggregate advantage.

Plateau United FC were also victorious against Libyan opponents Al Akhder SC at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The Peace Boys emerged victorious courtesy of goals from Mustapha Yuga, Ifeanyi Emmanuel and a Albert Hilary brace to make Aris Babel’s strike a consolation as Plateau United FC won 4-1.

Al Akhder SC will host the second leg at the Matyr of February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya on November 9, 2022.

Aggregate winners of both games will qualify for the group stage of the 2022 CAF Confederation Cup.
