The members of Enugu State House of Assembly Committee on Petroleum Resources and Environmental Matters have started visiting filling stations suspected to be distributing adulterated products.

The Chairman of the Committee Mr Obinna Okenwa, told newsmen on Friday that the visit to the selected stations was borne out of a petition on the distribution of adulterated diesel in the state.

According to him, the petition is addressed to the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Edward Ubosi.

He said that the growing rate of adulterated automotive gas and oil in the state had become of great concern to the state government.

Okenwa, in company of the officials of Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), said that for two days the committee had visited various stations in Enugu metropolis.

Okenwa said the team had visited stations in Trans-Ekulu, New Haven, Onu-Asata and New Market among others.

“Some of the samples we have collected had been taken to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) laboratory for extensive testing.

“After the NNPC analysis; the Enugu House of Assembly will decide on the next necessary action to be taken against any of the defaulting fuel stations,’’ he said.

A DPR official, Mr Daniel Atama, said that the department was saddled with the responsibility of ensuring quality control of all petroleum products distributed from the point of refinery.

Atama, however, noted that the department would give the house of assembly all the collaboration and support needed to end the sabotage of petroleum products distributed in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathers that at one of the fuel stations in Trans-Ekulu axis of Enugu, a truck with drums filled with suspected adulterated diesel was confiscated.

The truck was later handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, (NSCDC), Enugu Command, for further investigation.
