The Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District of Sokoto State, Ibrahim Lamido, Wednesday flagged off the disbursement of 50,000 naira each to 5,852 students from his constituency.

Addressing benefiting students from across the eight local government areas of his senatorial zone, the Senator hinted that, his interest is to among others, support the education of as many as possible.

The Senator, who was represented by Professor Muazu Shamaki of the Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, pointed out that the beneficiaries were selected on the basis of their local government areas and not any other considerations.

According to him, “We have gathered 5,852 students (beneficiaries) here today from different villages of the 8 local government areas that make up Sokoto East Senatorial District to assist them with N50, 000 each.

“These beneficiaries are not selected on the basis of their support for any political party. Our standpoint now as elected representatives is that we are leaders for all and we must treat all fairly.

“This education trust fund was borne out of the desire to assist students in my little capacity. However, I want to appeal to all beneficiaries to please make judicious use of it and for their educational purposes,” Senator Lamido stressed.

Continuing, he also hinted that he has organized medical outreaches to those affected by insecurity in the region.

Responding to the assistance, one of the benefitting students, who gave her name as Mariam from Usman Danfodiyo University (UDU), Sokoto said she is happy to have been given such a huge assistance especially at this time when the economy is biting harder on their parents.

Mariam also admitted that they are particularly grateful to Senator Lamido considering the fact that, “he is the first elected representative from the Senatorial district to have embarked on such gesture where beneficiaries are not selected based on any political consideration”
