The Methodist Church Nigeria was filled to the brim at Ikot Oboroenyin, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Sunday, as members of Ekere’s family ended the funeral rites of their late father, Pa Gabriel Sampson Ekere with thanksgiving to God.
Late Sir (Obong) Gabriel Ekere, who died at the age of 90 was interred at his country home in Ikot Oboroenyin on Saturday, September 11, 2021.
Among dignitaries that graced the occasion include former Petroleum Minister, Chief Don Etiebet, former Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo – Udoma, Minister of Power, who represented the Vice – President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Akwa Ibom State Deputy – Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, MD, Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone Authority, Obong Umana Okon Umana, National Secretary, APC Caretaker Committee, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, former Governor of Akwa Ibom, Obong Victor Attach represented by Dr. Udoma Bob Ekarika and former MD, NDDC, Barrister Bassey Dan Abia.
As part of the thanksgiving service in celebration of the life of their late patriarch, Sir (Obong) G.S Ekere, the departed icon’s first daughter, Mrs. Uduak Enobong Ufot, on behalf of the family thanked friends and well wishers who came to celebrate with the family.
She expressed gratitude to God for all the love and sacrifices showered on them during the week-long successful funeral programme.
Mrs. Ufot also thanked the Methodist Church Nigeria for celebrating Pa Ekere and the family in their moment of need, while pledging continuous support to the church.
The Service was marked by the dedication of the only Seat of the Knight of John Wesley in the Methodist Church, Ikot Oboroenyin and the eventual enthroning of Obong Nsima Ekere following the demise of his father, Sir G. S. Ekere who was the occupant of the seat.
