The nerve of Easter: God’s contribution to restore Divine community By Isaac Megbolugbe

April 5, 2026

Introduction

Easter embodies the essence of God’s plan to restore His divine community with humanity. Man is the habitation of God, created to live in fellowship with Him under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This truth underscores the significance of Easter, where God’s contribution redeems and reestablishes the broken connection between humanity and God.

God’s Creative Nature

God, being creative by nature, created the heavens and the earth, populating it with creatures. However, these creatures lacked the capacity to connect with and appreciate Him. So, God created humanity in His image, with the ability to relate to Him and appreciate His creation.

The Broken Connection

Adam and Eve’s sin disrupted the connection between God and humanity, leaving a chasm. Yet, God, in His loving-kindness, promised a contribution to redeem and restore this broken relationship. The initial downpayment was animal blood, covering Adam and Eve’s nakedness from the consequences of sin.

God’s Contribution: Jesus Christ

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, commemorated during Easter, is the fulfillment of God’s contribution to redeem humanity. Through Christ, God restored the connection, enabling humanity to fellowship, worship, and glorify Him eternally.

Restoration of Divine Community

God’s contribution achieves:

– Restored Fellowship: Humanity reconnects with God through Jesus Christ.

– Renewed Worship: God is glorified and worshiped in spirit and truth.

– Eternal Community: Humanity participates in God’s divine community, under Jesus’ Lordship.

Conclusion

Easter celebrates God’s incredible contribution to restore His divine community with humanity. Through Jesus Christ, God reestablishes the connection, enabling humanity to fulfill its purpose: to glorify God and live in eternal fellowship with Him.

Overview of Creation in Genesis Chapter 1

Genesis Chapter 1 describes God’s creation of the universe, bringing order to a chaotic, “formless and void” world over six days, culminating in a resting seventh day. This account establishes the foundation of God’s purposeful and orderly creation.

The Six Days of Creation

  1. Day 1: Light

– God creates light, separating it from darkness, calling them day and night.

  1. Day 2: Sky/Atmosphere

– God creates an expanse, separating waters and creating the sky.

  1. Day 3: Land & Vegetation

– God separates dry land from seas, creating vegetation, plants, and trees.

  1. Day 4: Sun, Moon, Stars

– God creates lights in the sky to govern day and night, marking seasons.

  1. Day 5: Birds & Sea Creatures

– God fills the sky with birds and the sea with marine life.

  1. Day 6: Land Animals & Humanity

– God creates land animals, followed by humans in His “own image,” both male and female, to rule over the earth.

The Seventh Day: Rest

– God rests from His work, blessing the seventh day.

Key Themes

– Creation ex nihilo: God brings existence out of nothingness.

– Order and Purpose: Days 1-3 focus on forming the environment, while days 4-6 focus on filling them.

– Humanity’s Role: Humans are made in God’s image to reflect His character and steward the earth.

– Goodness: God declares His creation “good” or “very good,” indicating a purposeful and orderly world.

Significance

Genesis 1 establishes God’s sovereignty, wisdom, and goodness in creation, providing a foundation for understanding humanity’s place in the world and our relationship with God.

Overview of Temptation, Fall, Consequences, Interim Remedy, and Promise of Ultimate Redemption

Genesis 3 details the pivotal events of humanity’s fall into sin and God’s redemptive plan. The chapter outlines the temptation by the serpent, the fall through Adam and Eve’s disobedience, and the immediate consequences of shame, fear, and cursing.

Temptation and Fall (Genesis 3:1-6)

– The Tempter: The serpent, crafty and questioning God’s word, sows doubt about God’s goodness and promises wisdom.

– The Desire: Eve sees fruit as good for food, pleasing to the eye, and desirable for wisdom.

– The Act: Adam and Eve disobey God’s command, breaking their covenant of obedience.

Immediate Consequences (Genesis 3:7-19)

– Guilt & Shame: Immediate awareness of nakedness leads them to cover themselves and hide from God.

– Broken Relationships: Blame-shifting replaces unity; Adam blames Eve and God, Eve blames the serpent.

– Curses & Death: The serpent is cursed. The woman faces increased pain in childbirth and relational struggle. The man faces laborious, toilsome work.

– Expulsion: Humanity is expelled from Eden, separated from the Tree of Life.

– Physical & Spiritual Death: They face spiritual separation from God and the beginning of the return to dust (physical death).

Interim Remedy and Promise (Genesis 3:15, 3:21)

– Interim Remedy: God makes garments of skin for Adam and Eve to cover their shame, symbolizing a covering for sin (first sacrifice).

– Promise of Redemption (Protoevangelium): God promises that the seed of the woman (a descendant) will bruise the serpent’s head, though the serpent will bruise his heel, indicating a victorious but suffering Messiah (Gen 3:15).

Significance

Genesis 3 establishes the foundation for understanding humanity’s sinful nature, God’s judgment, and His redemptive plan. The promise of a future Redeemer sets the stage for the unfolding story of salvation, culminating in Jesus Christ.

The Architecture of Redemption: God’s Plan to Restore Humanity through Jesus Christ

The redemption of humanity is a masterful plan orchestrated by God, designed to restore His relationship with humanity through Jesus Christ. This plan is rooted in God’s love, justice, and desire for fellowship with His creation.

The Need for Redemption

Humanity’s rebellion against God, initiated in Genesis 3, resulted in sin, separation, and death. God’s holiness and justice demanded a solution to this problem, while His love and mercy sought a way to restore His relationship with humanity.

The Plan of Redemption

God’s plan of redemption involves several key components:

– The Promise: God promised a Redeemer (Genesis 3:15), who would defeat Satan and restore humanity’s relationship with God.

– The Law: God gave the Law to reveal His holiness, expose humanity’s sin, and point to the need for a Savior.

– The Sacrificial System: God established a system of sacrifices to symbolize the forgiveness of sins and foreshadow the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

– The Incarnation: God sent Jesus Christ, His Son, to become human, live a sinless life, and die on the cross, paying the penalty for humanity’s sin.

– The Resurrection: Jesus’ resurrection from the dead demonstrated His power over sin and death, providing a way for humanity to be reconciled with God.

The Work of Jesus Christ

Jesus’ work on the cross accomplished several key things:

– Propitiation: Jesus satisfied God’s wrath against sin, turning away God’s judgment.

– Substitution: Jesus took the punishment for humanity’s sin, becoming the substitute for sinners.

– Reconciliation: Jesus restored humanity’s relationship with God, making it possible for people to be reconciled to God.

– Redemption: Jesus purchased humanity’s freedom from the slavery of sin, providing a new life in Him.

The Application of Redemption

God’s plan of redemption is applied to humanity through:

– Faith: Individuals must put their faith in Jesus Christ, acknowledging their sin and accepting His sacrifice as payment.

– Repentance: People must turn away from their sin and turn to God, surrendering their lives to Jesus.

– Regeneration: God gives new life to those who trust in Jesus, making them new creations.

– Justification: God declares believers righteous, based on Jesus’ righteousness, and provides a new standing before Him.

The Outcome of Redemption

God’s plan of redemption results in:

– Reconciliation with God: Believers are restored to fellowship with God, enjoying a personal relationship with Him.

– New Life: Believers receive new life, with a changed heart and a new nature.

– Hope: Believers have hope of eternal life, a future resurrection, and a glorified body.

– Glorification: Ultimately, believers will be glorified, living in God’s presence forever.

Conclusion

The architecture of redemption is a beautiful, complex plan designed by God to restore humanity to Himself. Through Jesus Christ, God has provided a way for sinners to be reconciled, redeemed, and restored to fellowship with Him. This plan is a testament to God’s love, justice, and desire for relationship with His creation.

The Divine Community of God: A Glorified Humanity under the Lordship of Jesus Christ

The biblical account of the divine community of God is a theme that runs throughout Scripture, culminating in the glorification of humanity under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the pivotal event that showcases the possibility of glorified humanity and invites all people to participate in this divine community.

The Original Design: Community with God

In the beginning, God created humanity in His image (Genesis 1:26-27), intending for them to live in fellowship with Him. This original design was disrupted by sin, but God’s plan of redemption aims to restore the divine community.

The New Creation: Glorified Humanity

Through Jesus Christ, God is creating a new humanity, redeemed and glorified, to live in fellowship with Him (2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:15). This new creation is characterized by:

– Glorified Bodies: Believers will receive glorified bodies, like Jesus’ resurrection body (1 Corinthians 15:42-44, Philippians 3:20-21).

– Transformed Character: Believers are being transformed into the image of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18, Romans 8:29).

– New Relationships: Believers become part of a new community, united with Jesus and one another (John 17:20-23, Ephesians 2:19-22).

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ: Showcase of Glorified Humanity

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation and guarantee of this glorified humanity (1 Corinthians 15:12-19). Jesus’ resurrection demonstrates:

– Victory over Death: Jesus has conquered death, and believers will share in this victory (1 Corinthians 15:55-57).

– New Creation: Jesus’ resurrection inaugurates the new creation, where all things are made new (2 Corinthians 5:17, Revelation 21:5).

– Glorified Humanity: Jesus’ resurrection showcases the possibility of glorified humanity, where believers will live in fellowship with God (John 17:24, Revelation 21:3).

The Divine Community: Under the Lordship of Jesus Christ

The divine community of God is characterized by:

– Jesus Christ as Lord: Jesus is the Head of the church, and believers are united with Him (Ephesians 1:22-23, Colossians 1:18).

– Fellowship with God: Believers enjoy fellowship with God, made possible through Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3, John 17:20-23).

– Unity and Harmony: Believers are united with one another, reflecting the unity of the Trinity (John 17:20-23, Ephesians 4:3-6).

Conclusion

The biblical account of the divine community of God is a story of redemption, restoration, and glorification. Through Jesus Christ, God is creating a new humanity, united with Him and one another, to live in fellowship with the Triune God. The resurrection of Jesus Christ showcases the possibility of glorified humanity, inviting all people to participate in this divine community under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
