Tinubu approves new appointments

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs. Zubaida Umar as the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Also appointed are Brigadier-General Lawal Ja’afar Isa (Rtd) as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, and Alhaji Tijani Hashim Abbas as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Chieftaincy Matters.
The appointments were announced in statements by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity).
The new Director-General of NEMA, Ngelale said, has over 20 years of work experience in diverse fields, including Human Resources, and Finance and Administration. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration.
He said Mrs. Umar also holds ACCA certifications in Public Financial Management and Digital & Sustainability Financing, and that as Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, drove the strategy and repositioning of the bank and successfully facilitated the transformation of the institution into a modern, digitized mortgage and financial service provider.
The President, he stressed, expects that the new Director-General will bring the much-needed financial and operational discipline to her new assignment and will refashion NEMA into a performance-driven and proactive emergency response provider with a focus on prevention and climate change readiness in the execution of its core mandate.
Ngelale also said that General Ja’afar Isa is a respected leader and was Military Administrator of Kaduna State from 1993 to 1996, while Alhaji Tijani Hashim Abbas is the Sarkin Sudan Kano.
The President, he noted, anticipates that General Ja’afar Isa and Alhaji Tijani Hashim Abbas will bring their vast experiences into the important new roles they have been assigned.
